In 2012, five years after opening the Kidney Beanz Trust, we noticed that children were getting transplanted and although they were receiving all the various therapies children were missing out on sometimes 2 – 4 years of schooling which was almost impossible to catch up. Kidney Beanz then employed a full time educator to assist these children while on dialysis or in hospital and via home schooling programmes they were able to assist children catch up the years that they missed while on dialysis.
While some children still go to school others come to Kidney Beanz everyday where a full-time educator is employed to assist these children. Tutors are also brought in to assist those children who desperately need the assistance to close the gaps in education. Our aim is once they are transplanted to integrate back into a normal environment and achieve to the best of their ability.
